Mythology Monday #3: The Collectors

The Craftsmen hold possibly the most power and influence of any faction with a public face (and possibly more than any secret or covert group either). The vast majority of specialized goods are made by Craftsmen. No all specialized goods are made by Craftsmen, but the parts for a Gunnars ship or the saddle for an Equinja’s ride have to come from somewhere. Pirates and Ninjas alike both know not to mess with the people building their houses. You could get an independent builder to make your house or do it yourself, but the Craftsmen will typically do it cheaper, faster, and make it last longer.

Still, there exist those that like to challenge the Craftsmen. Thieves and con-men try to outsmart the Craftsmen and put a dent in their metaphorical armor. Most Craftsmen are more than capable of protecting their stores and products, but not every Craftsmen has the operational freedom to chase halfway across the country for some thief. That’s where the Collectors come in.

Supplement Sunday #3: Flawed

Everyone loves character flaws. They add depth and intrigue to a character while giving a little bit of experience back to the player. In a lot of systems, flaws are anything that a character has that are disadvantageous to them. In Pirates vs. Ninjas, the flaws actually have to give a mechanical penalty to count. An arch-nemesis or a personal secret or being a minor target hunted by an organization is something best left to roleplay (although, if said flaw gives you a -2 to hiding your identity because you’re a major target, that’s something different).

So, for today, I thought I’d introduce a few new flaws for all you players out there to work with. Of course, as always, GMs should approve flaws to make sure they’re applicable, see that they’ll work, and know how to torture their players.

Super Build Saturday #3: Equinja Madness

Okay. So, you’ve read through the Equinja, your GM has accepted that they can and will break major plot elements with their abilities, and you even found a niche to fit in into the Equinja mythos. What’s left?

Oh right. Your actual character.

Theory Thursday #3: Equinja in Campaigns

Like all characters and facitons in Pirates versus Ninjas, Equinja bring their own unique problems to the table. Whether its their increased mobility, their flexibility, or their synergy with other allies, the Equinja do bring challenges to the table as a GM that you will want to be prepared for. It won’t do to make a bad ass campaign villain only to have him mowed down by the Equinja before he can hit them. So, here’s a list of things to watch out for when GM’ing for an Equinja.

Well-Loved Hero Wednesday #3: Kaneda

I promised you an Equinja, and here we are. I was actually tempted to do Celty from Durarara, but:
1. I haven’t seen far enough to stat her out entirely.
2. I felt like doing something a bit lower point for once.

So, here’s Kaneda from Akira (yes, the guy with the cool bike).

Mythology Monday #2: Legends of the Equinja

Well, we’re still a bit behind on posts, but I should be caught up by tomorrow.

Today, we’re going to discuss the Equinja. Specifically, we’re going to discuss the various rumors and legends that surround them and the various people in their faction. Like all factions, the Equinja have their secret and fables. None of these are necessarily true, but they can make for interesting adventuring hooks for parties that are either heavily allied with the Equinja or fight them a lot.

Supplement Sunday #2: The Equinja

Well, The post is effectively 3 days late, but for good reason. It’s new faction time. The Equinja have been a work in progress since the website started, and I decided to use Supplement Sunday as an excuse to finish them. Obviously, I can’t just list every single ability and the faction history here. Instead, you can find that on the wiki under the Equinja entry.

However, I am going to take some time to point out the finer points of the faction and how they play in game to give you an idea what you’re in for before you read everything on them. I’ll catch up on the missing blog entries over the next couple of days. We’ll make a theme week out of it. Not like Captain Pegnose gets any questions anyway.
